Since 2018, funding has been provided by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) to the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) to conduct a series of research activities, including routine water quality sampling, in the Middle Yegua Creek watershed. In 2020, a Watershed Characterization Report was published by TWRI and it summarized the physical characteristics and historical water quality data within the Middle Yegua Creek watershed, as well as estimated the potential causes and sources of the pollution. In 2025, a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) developed by TWRI and local stakeholders was published. This WPP outlines potential pollutant causes and sources as well as suitable management measures to reduce bacteria load in the creek.
Watershed Protection Plan Implementation Project Tasks
Project Administration
To effectively administer, coordinate, and monitor all work performed under this project including technical and financial supervision, and preparation of status reports.
Quality Assurance
To develop data quality objectives (DQOs) and quality assurance/control (QA/QC) activities to ensure data of known and acceptable quality are generated through this project.
Engagement, Support, and Facilitation of WPP Implementation
To facilitate stakeholder engagement, ensuring successful implementation of the WPP through adaptive management, and to track implementation achievements and report to the stakeholder group.
Water Quality Monitoring
To collect surface water quality and flow data to better characterize impairing parameters within the watershed.
